Hexagrid Joins Open Virtualization Alliance with KVM-Based Cloud Computing Platform

St. Louis, Missouri, July 7, 2011– Hexagrid Computing, a leading developer of cloud enablement solutions, announces participation in the Open Virtualization Alliance (OVA), a consortium committed to fostering the adoption of open virtualization technologies, including Kernel-based Virtual Machine (KVM).

"Hexagrid enthusiastically joins the OVA in support of KVM technology,” said Suresh Mandava, CEO of Hexagrid Computing.  “Having recently received the Cloud Computing World Series Award for Best Virtualization Product, we credit KVM for providing a solid foundation upon which Hexagrid can build innovative cloud solutions. The future of KVM is bright and Hexagrid is excited to be aligned with its success."

Hexagrid developed VxDatacenter to optimize KVM hypervisor technology as a turnkey Infrastructure as a Service platform that enables IT organizations to virtualize and manage commodity hardware as customized cloud computing ecosystems.  Participation in OVA unites Hexagrid and the open source community with a common goal of educating the mainstream market about KVM best practices and virtualization advantages.

Since the OVA's inception, support has grown significantly due to KVM’s rise as an enterprise class hypervisor.  As the only virtualization technology built into the Linux kernel, KVM maintains the performance, scalability, and security characteristics of Linux.  The huge Linux development community affords KVM the same experience and support that has made Linux the trusted operating system for the world’s largest mission-critical datacenter environments.  As such, KVM provides a strong base for technology and business advancement through purpose-built, open source solutions.

“We are very pleased that Hexagrid has joined the Open Virtualization Alliance,” said Scott Crenshaw, VP of Cloud Computing at Red Hat and member of the Board of Directors at the OVA.  “Hexagrid is an example of a company that has embraced KVM as a strategic technology in cloud computing solutions.  The OVA is a stronger community with members focused on that type of innovative approach.”

With over 70 members, OVA joins hardware, software, services and cloud computing companies to advance KVM development and widespread deployment of open source solutions.  “We consider the acceptance of the OVA as approval from a community of like-minded people who believe in the value of open-source,” says Dave Rokita, Vice President of Technology Operations at Hexagrid Computing.  Using collaboration and innovation to solve problems, the open-source community is strong and growing every day.”
