Through partnership, UMSL’s ITenterprises offers cloud computing to startups

ITenterprises at the University of Missouri–St. Louis has partnered with Hexagrid Computing to offer a unique form of cloud computing to start-up technology companies. Now young companies can access data center and computing resources to help develop and grow innovative technology concepts. By nurturing the success of emerging technology companies in the St. Louis region, ITenterprises furthers the university’s economic development mission.

“ITenterprises is anchored by a high-performance computing center,” said Nasser Arshadi, vice provost for research at UMSL. “This partnership leverages our computing resources and Hexagrid’s software platform to offer cloud computing services to a wide range of end-users who would otherwise be unable to access this quality of information technology resources at a cost-effective price.”

ITenterprises is designed to be a major force in translating innovative ideas into thriving businesses in the fields of information technology and life sciences. The building offers dry and wet labs, office space, and now cloud computing with Hexagrid’s generous support. ITenterprises is currently home to eight emerging technology companies.

“With Hexagrid’s novel cloud computing platform, our data center can be run much more efficiently, and our clients can use their resources more effectively,” said William Lemon, director of scientific and computing services at ITenterprises.

“ITenterprises fosters technology advancement by supporting innovative startups in the St. Louis Region,” said Suresh Mandava, founder and chief executive officer of Hexagrid. “Our revolutionary VxDatacenter software enables ITenterprises to deliver more efficient and flexible IT resources with cloud computing technology that is itself a springboard for innovation. Hexagrid was a startup not so long ago, and this partnership naturally evolved based on our mutual interests in regional and technological progress.”

Founded in 2008, St. Louis-based Hexagrid is considered a pioneer in the Infrastructure as a Service (IaaS) cloud computing industry, enabling IT organizations to not only deliver IaaS but also Platform as a Service (PaaS) and Software as a Service (SaaS). The company’s revolutionary VxDatacenter software addresses practical business needs for flexible and affordable cloud computing solutions that deliver all the efficiencies but minimize the hassles of this most recent computing revolution.
